Can We Trust an AI Interviewer?
It’s the first question we hear when someone sees the AI Interviewer in action. Can we trust it? Can a machine really evaluate candidates with the depth and accuracy of a human engineer?
Built by engineers, interviewers and recruiters.
The logic behind the AI Interviewer wasn’t designed in isolation. It was created by the same people who’ve helped place 1000s of technologists across 250+ companies, built their own AI code evaluation product, and run thousands of tech interviews manually themselves. Every evaluation flow is rooted in how real engineers assess skills during structured conversations.
The questions, follow-ups, and scoring patterns are based on years of hiring experience. We didn’t start with AI and add interviews later. We started with interviews, and then added AI that could replicate the nuance.
How does it evaluate candidates?
The evaluation framework combines:
- Rule-based logic for correct answers and clean code
- LLM-driven interpretation for open-ended and complex responses
- Score mapping aligned to standardized skill benchmarks and expectations per role
- Customization based on stack, experience level, and interview depth
Each candidate is assessed using consistent rubrics, ensuring evaluations that feel logical and fair to both recruiters and engineers.
How do we ensure scoring is accurate?
We don’t just rely on AI. We validate its performance against real hiring outcomes and human-reviewed data.
Every scoring model is benchmarked against human reviewer data. The feedback loop doesn’t end once a candidate finishes an interview. Hiring teams provide inputs, which help us refine the AI’s responses and scoring logic. This continuous tuning is what helps maintain trust.
Recruiters can also see what led to a score. The scoring criteria, code transcripts, and feedback notes are all visible in the report so nothing is hidden behind the curtain.
Over the last one year, we’ve manually reviewed over 1000 AI reports and interview recordings, and we’ll continue to do so to make sure we get interviewing right.
Fairness and anti-bias checks
Bias is a problem in hiring. Our system is designed to reduce it, not replicate it.
- Resumes are not considered
- Interviews are anonymized
- Every candidate goes through the same structured flow
That means decisions are based on skill, not background, familiarity, or guesswork.
What if the answer is unconventional?
Sometimes, a candidate takes a creative path. The AI is trained to evaluate for valid approaches, not just a single correct solution. It knows how to assign credit for partial answers, catch interesting logic, and identify red flags when needed.
This flexibility helps distinguish smart problem-solvers from candidates who’ve just memorized patterns.
Why teams trust it
Trust doesn’t come from a feature list. It comes from outcomes. The AI Interviewer delivers structured, traceable, and explainable results and those results are already helping hiring teams move faster and smarter.
That’s how we’ve built confidence with early adopters. And that’s how we’ll earn your trust too.
